About Us

The name Bai Café is derived from many words around the world that all have similar meanings. In the Babenzélé language of the Pygmy people in the Central African Republic, the term refers to naturally occurring forest clearings that includes mineral rich soil and waters that draw elephants, gorillas, and other wildlife (1,2). In Palau, bai refers a traditional meeting house that holds a powerful center in local culturea bai serves as a symbol of Palauan cultural identity and values of community, respect, and tradition (3). No matter the culture, the emphasis on community and culture is a central component of the term bai and a central focus of Bai Café. We are stronger when we can join together to and form a community to support and uplift one another.

Bai Café is the brainchild of Christopher, a former scientist, whose love for baking was reignited during the pandemic. Christopher and his creations are carefully crafted in his kitchen, blending together a mix of classic southern desserts and experimental baking.

Christopher initially started baking for his friends and neighbors, but quickly realized the high demand for quality baked goods and sought to expand his services to a wider audience. Using the skills learned in his grandma’s kitchen and his scientific background, Christopher frequently creates new creations that are tested and approved delicious!
